It's definitely not. It's only disbelief in God's existence.

An atheistic religion is surely possible, though. It would necessarily be optimistic and favor nature/chance as the explanation for eternal life. Buddhism doesn't qualify for this, but the exact opposite of it would.
@21stCenturyFox By definition it is not a religion, but some atheists are very 'religious' about their atheism; even evangelical, as I have said before. Plus it really pisses them off when you point out their paradoxical obsession with something that doesn't exist! It's unique to atheists. I have to admit, it's kind of a fun place to poke them!

@21stCenturyFox @puck61 There are no such people that are atheists nor a cult known as atheism even though skeptics say otherwise. As long as they are alive, they'll believe in some type of false god or idol and put their faith in that idol. Just thought I'd let you know. Anything that takes place of the one true God in people's hearts is an idol.
@GodSpeed63 I agree. Idolatry for most, is stuff and money. Sex too. Many are committing spiritual infidelity. Like 'me' for example. I call myself a Christian but my flesh serves other gods. Spiritual infidelity is the worst witness, because it drives many away from the free gift of eternal life and salvation through Christ's victory over sin and death on the cross. It also shuts the mouths of potential witnesses. I would venture to say that spiritual infidelity causes people to become atheists. Atheism itself is not a religion but atheists are as religious as anyone. God is the highest ranking judge.

@GodSpeed63 So stupid. Atheists don't worship idols, and everything besides God isn't an idol. Is your toilet an idol? There's far more idol worshiping in faiths than in disbelief.
@21stCenturyFox Psychologists will ask a patient, "What does the saying, 'You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.' mean to you?" This is to see if they can grasp abstract thinking. The saying is not about 'horses' or 'water'. A toilet is not a god for anyone because it doesn't fill a key role in the hierarchy, it's a small part of the physiological part at the very bottom. People try to fill an empty space inside themselves with all kinds of things. Money, drugs, sex, popularity, possessions, power over others, even 'work'. That is all the man is saying. We all have gods in that sense. For some of us, it's the mirror. I'm a Christian, but I have vices and obsessions of my own. Think about it.
What do you spend most of your money on? What do you spend most of your time thinking about? What is the most important thing to you?

Which still does not denote a belief in a god which makes them atheist.
Check mate.

@Pikachu
Which still does not denote a belief in a god which makes them atheist.
Nope, it just means that they do not put their faith and trust in the one true God.
@GodSpeed63

Tell you what, you give me an example of an "idol" in someone's life and then you explain for the people here how that idol constitutes a belief in a god.

This is a direct question. I expect a direct answer.

Aaaaand go.

@Pikachu
This is a direct question. I expect a direct answer.
Now that really takes faith. I prophesy you'll be disappointed.
@suzie1960

you can only be disappointed if you expect something😉
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Pikachu That's true. You'd need an incredible amount of faith to really expect a straight answer from him.
@GodSpeed63

Hey guy. I see you responded to my other reply but not this one.
This is the one i'm interested in.

Let me repost it for your convenience because that's what people do when they're actually willing to stand behind what they say😉

*ahem*

Give me an example of an "idol" in someone's life and then you explain for the people here how that idol constitutes a belief in a god.
@Pikachu @suzie1960 I'll answer. You're god, Pikachu, is your intellect, for starters. You asked this question so you could 'show off'. I'm not criticizing, we all do it in one way or another. You often ask these kinds of question so you can get your intellectual smugness fix when you 'think' you make the faithful look foolish. You're like the other outspoken atheists here . As far as I know, there are three of you who like to post questions of this nature to get your rush, when you feel that your responses are clever. You think you are extremely intelligent, and you enjoy reading your own words and feeling clever and smug that you have once again struck a mighty blow for 'Atheism'! In that respect, you are very 'religious' about your atheism. Suszie, I have no idea what your god is!

Most atheist just believe what they believe, and they don't have an ax to grind with the faithful as long as the "faithful" leaves them alone. In my opinion, those atheists do not make atheism into a religion because they don't try to play 'gotcha!' with believers all the time!~ I have absolutely no problem with the gotcha games. If you feel like you've bested me in a battle of wits, and that makes you feel good, then I'm glad I could help!

Good answer, puck61.

@puck61
Suszie, I have no idea what your god is!
Of course not, I don't have any gods, not even @Pikachu. ;)
@suzie1960 You could always just go with the mirror. Are you not even up to being 'your own' god? I think that is the default god for humanity. 'Self'
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@puck61 No, I'm not my own or anyone else's god but I see @Pikachu is one of yours.
@suzie1960 Oh wonderful! Another psychologist! Sorry sweetums. Ain't buying it. 😆😉
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@puck61 No, I'm a physicist, I don't need gods.
@suzie1960 Impressive! I would think a physicist would consider God more than gods, and they would consider God daily as part of their research or work. More so than a televangelist or phony pastor, or deviant priest anyway.
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
@puck61 A real good answer, puck61.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@puck61 Why? There is no logical basis for a belief in any god - capitalized or not.
@suzie1960 I see things quite the opposite. It seems the height of improbability to think that there is no God.From Nicole Oresme to Antonino Zichichi , famous physicists have believed in God, specifically the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Abrienda · 26-30, F
@suzie1960 Too bad you could not been around to explain that to Albert Einstein who believed in God. You could have explained how "illogical" he was as you have doubtless the superior mind.

Sir Issac Newton, too, if he were around, you could do the same favor.
Abrienda · 26-30, F
No...it stands for and represents nothing. It is of course the ultimate expression of nihilism.
