Man can not begin to know the complexity of God
@Jake966

Sure, god behaves in a way that appears monstrous, disgusting and horrifyingly violent....but since we can't know the mind of god these actions are morally just.

Nope. Not buying it
Jake966 · 56-60, M
@Pikachu God is a jealous God , states it in the Bible . You don’t have to buy it but some day you will know it
@Jake966

Sorry, but that wasn't a validation of your position.
Acknowledging that the god of the bible is a self-admittedly jealous one in no way validates his actions. It does not make murdering thousands of men, women and children a morally correct act.

Please try again.

@Pikachu they were immoral , that’s why they died . God hates sin
@Jake966

Lol sure. Everyone on the planet was immoral to the point where they deserved to die. The children and the babies especially.

But that's still not good enough. You seem to think that if god had a reason for killing everyone then it is morally correct. This is wrong.
Serial killers have reasons why they kill. Hitler had reasons for killing jews. Reasons that he apparently earnestly believed. That doesn't make it morally correct.

So can you explain why killing people is morally just if you hate the way they're behaving?
Jake966 · 56-60, M
@Jake966 God doesn’t need to explain His actions . Greed is not an issue for Him , everything belongs to Him
@Jake966

Being a dictator who doesn't need to explain himself to his subjects does not make his actions morally correct.
You may even say that god has the right to treat us in whatever way he wants because he has sovereignty. That does not make it morally right.

Please try again.

@Pikachu God have them rules to follow . They broke them and were punished for it , plain and simple
@Jake966

If you give your child rules to follow and he breaks them, are you morally justified in murdering him?
Of course not.
Are you morally justified in murdering him and his children and his children's children? Nope. Not by any recognizable standard of morality.
Jake966 · 56-60, M
@Pikachu God has given us an option , believe in Christ as your Savior or face eternal damnation . Plain and simple . The killing of those people back in the Old Testament was under Gods old law , thankfully we have the New Law that came about when Jesus defeated death and rose from the dead to establish the New Law of salvation . The killing of all of those people was just a glimpse of what is to come at The Judgement Seat of CHRIST when those who didn’t believe will be sentenced to eternal damnation in Hell
Jake966 · 56-60, M
@Pikachu we are human and are not given the right to discipline our children that way . The Bible does state that he who takes another’s life , his is to be taken also , and God gives the power to those in charge to carry out that sentence
@Jake966

I don't understand what case you think you're making.

Genocide is genocide. Torture is torture.
The fact that god gives people a "choice" (which it isn't because people can't choose to believe that which they do not believe) does not make the murder or torture morally correct.

You recognize that the things god has done in the bible are monstrous and not moral by any standard we recognize. That's why you initially responded by saying that we can't know the complexity of god. You can't explain why his actions are moral, you just decide that they must be because he's god and that seems to satisfy you.

Well that may be good enough for you but it's not good enough for me.
I need a better answer than " I bet it's ok for reasons" or "God owns us so it's ok".
Can you supply that?
@Jake966

So god sets down a moral code. A set of tools by which we judge right from wrong....and then he proceeds to act in direct contradiction of those rules and we give him a pass because...?
Jake966 · 56-60, M
@Pikachu I don’t recognize anything you say that God has done is wicked . God is the Ruler of the Universe , anything He does is not for me to question . You are simply looking for an arguement and to put words in my mouth or assume I mean something I didn’t say . I have spoken what the Bible has told me and that is what it is , like it or not . God IS the Creator of ALL thing and by Him they were created and when He judges I am not in any position to question . End of discussion .
@Jake966
anything He does is not for me to question
Exactly. You're content to stop thinking at "God owns us so he can do whatever he wants."
I haven't asked you to tell me what is written in the bible.
I've asked you to use the brain god gave you to explain rationally why genocide and torture can be considered morally correct depending on who is doing the killing and the torturing.

You appear either unable or unwilling to explain your thought process in that area.
I'm not trying to argue with you, i'm trying to have a discussion with you.
If you're not interested then i agree that we've reached a conclusion.
Have a nice night.
