What is god? [Spirituality & Religion]

LadyGrace · 70-79
Not what is God? WHO is God? He is the creator of heaven and earth. Love personified. Contrary to some people's beliefs, God does not only love good people; He loves the sinners, as well. He doesn't love their wicked ways, but He loves them as an individual. It’s in the Bible, Matthew 5:45, 46  “For [God] gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust too. If you love only those who love you, what good is that? Even scoundrels do that much.”

God loves us like a doting father. It’s in the Bible, 1 John 3:1, NKJV. “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.”

We are to follow God’s example of love. It’s in the Bible, 1 John 4:11  “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

We are to be holy like God is. It's in the Bible, 1 Peter 1:14-16, CEB. "Don’t be conformed to your former desires, those that shaped you when you were ignorant. But, be holy in every aspect of your lives, just as the one who called you is holy.

God’s love means that He must sometimes discipline us. It’s in the Bible, Proverbs 3:11-12, NKJV. “My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, nor detest His correction; for whom the LORD loves He corrects, just as a father the son in whom he delights.”

God never gives up on us. Jeremiah 31:3  “The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: ‘Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.’”

Nothing can separate us from God’s love. It’s in the Bible, Romans 8:38-39  “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
ANewCovenant · 51-55, M
He is the eternal Creator and Sustainer of all things. He is a triune God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit, but they all are separate and distinct roles). Jesus Christ, the Son of God came into the world to save people from their sins, because God is a Holy and Perfect and Just God. He is also Love, thus He determined in His love to show mercy on all people by taking the penalty of sin onto Himself in the Person of His Son on the Cross 2000 years ago. Christ's shed blood is for the forgiveness of sins. A person needs to repent and put their trust in Christ alone for salvation to live eternally in Heaven. Sadly, many people love their sins (living apart from His laws, the Ten Commandments), thus they choose instead to mock Him. It is true that even Christ's followers are still broken people themselves and struggle with sin, however a true follower will show fruit bearing with repentance ( love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control). God is currently saving people from all walks of life in the world, because He is a God who saves "whosoever shall, may come and receive eternal life" in Christ.

" For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or [e]principalities or [f]powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist." (Colossians 1:15-17)

"Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6)

@ANewCovenant that is so true. Well said

@ANewCovenant This is religion, not God. And only one example of a religion
LadyGrace · 70-79
God is not a “what”. Who is God?, is appropriate.

God is many things to many people. It depends on how they view Him....believers and unbelievers, alike. But regardless of name, age, race, or status in life, we all share these three things:

1. There’s no difference between believers and unbelievers. We all have sin and fall short of meeting God’s standard of perfection. HE is the one who sets the standard...not us. We need a plan, if we’re going to make it to heaven.

2. Sin separates us from God the Father. He is so Holy, He cannot look upon sin. Heaven would not be heaven, if there was sin in it. We need a Savior, to make things right with God again, and restore our fellowship with Him.

3. We need to believe that Jesus, the Son of God, being perfect and without sin, became the Mediator between God and man...that whoever comes to Jesus, asking for forgiveness of their sins, and invites Him into their heart and life to stay, and live according to His Word, shall be saved. Their sins shall be washed away, and they shall be called the children of God, inheriting eternal life in heaven.

'My God'
by Valentine

My god
Lives inside
Within me
And yes,
So does my devil
Unfortunately

But my god will prevail
Because he is good
And without vice or sin
And, it is these both
Which ultimately
Will help the other
His nemesis
Dig his own premature pit
And he will be buried
Forgotten
Well, almost

And it may be
That my god
Is the same
As your God
Because he embraces
Goodness
In whatever form

He is not vain
And I believe your God
Is much the same
So they may be friends
Already

That either God
Can seem to allow
Great hurt
Or great pain
Is sometimes perplexing
But, I think I now understand

We are blessed with life
For however long
For however short
Under whatever strain
In whatever form
Transient sometimes
And he is our friend
He is there to support

And if I am right
This same God
Lives within you too

So, as my friend
Our Gods may then join
And we are both stronger
And we share the pain
And the joy
Together

And this joining
This union
Is the beginning
Of something
Much bigger
We may call it
Religion
And this is good
And strong
And collective
And embracing

At least most times

For when it does not
Embrace
Or would inflict power upon
Or would suppress
Other brother
Or sister
Or cousin faiths
Or even those
Who would choose
What you might call
Rejection
This causes harm
And is not
What my god
In his peace
Intended

He gave me
This form
This frame
To live
To create
To perpetuate
And yet
He also gave me
An inner frame
An inner voice
An inner mind
Which lives within

Is it Him
Or Her
It does not matter

It is a voice
A conscious thinking
A spark of life
And it is always there
And it always speaks to me
A comfort
A support

That he gave me
And you
This life
This opportunity
I am grateful
And always will be

Eternally.

@Valentine Here is the way God is described in the bible.

Light has no fellowship with darkness. 2 Corinthians 6:14. We don’t have both the Lord’s and an evil spirit in us.

“Greater is He (God) that is in you, than he (Satan) that is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

That depends on what you belief. Too many he is the Creator and the Supreme Judge of Life. To others a Supreme Being. Some think he is a figment of the imagination. Some Ancient Civilizations believed in many gods. Such ax the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. Even our planets are named after gods. Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars are all named after Roman Gods and a godess. Daffy Duck was even referred to as the Egyptian god of Frustration.

The real question is what do you believe? In what do you put your faith?

Faith has been defined as
the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Is that God?
AngelKrish · 26-30, M
Who pushes us in hell where we suffer then he saves us from hell then pushes us in another hell stage...

He keeps on experimenting! Lol
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
@AngelKrish why do you say that?
Do you have any experiences?
LadyGrace · 70-79
@AngelKrish No.......Jesus gave you a choice of whether you want to escape hell or not. What you don't realize, is that your sins have already condemned you to hell. Jesus is giving you an alternative. A way out...as He does all. If you refuse that choice, it's you who has condemned yourself to hell, because sin cannot enter heaven. That means that your sin separates you from God and God has a remedy for that. If you refuse Jesus's offer to save you from hell, what you're telling him is that you don't need Him nor want anything to do with Him, or His plan of salvation, so you have sent yourself to hell. Not Jesus. Without his help and mediation with His Father on your behalf, you cannot be forgiven, and shall stay in a state of separation from God the Father in heaven. Jesus wants to save you, not hurt you. But there is nothing he can do for you if you tie his hands by rejecting His offer to save you. You are the one who is telling Him, no.
LadyGrace · 70-79
@AngelKrish There's another side to that coin you've not considered.
What you are witnessing today, is what this world looks like WITHOUT God stepping in. It's a spiritual mirror and reminder, reflecting just how wicked this world and mankind is, who caused it, and just WHY WE NEED HIM. That is why He's allowing it. He knows that our time here is very short, and He wants us to see the Light, and have our sins forgiven, so no one will miss heaven or stay separated from God the Father, but some people are too prideful and stubborn to accept that. That is why He is delaying His return. He is not willing that ANY should perish. John 3:16 ... If you tell God you don't need Him or want Him, He will honor your choice, though it is wrong. It's exactly as you wanted it.

@Emosaur he saves them from more than they know, and to some he rescues from their poverty, and others die, but all die in the end

Read the story of Lazarus and the rich man to understand, he comforts them, but to those who are wicked it is torment that awaits them
th3r0n · 41-45, M
And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

Apart from a human construct?
"[God is] an energy-like potentiality without size, without form, infinitely powerful, alive the same way your mind is alive because your mind is part of it, highly emotional, and therefore, probably self-aware."
