Leviticus 19:27 [Spirituality & Religion]

Where are real Christians at?
LadyGrace · 70-79
God knows the real ones, and he told us that we shall know them by their fruits. Some talk the talk, but don't walk the walk. One is either committed, or not. Knowing OF Jesus, is not the same as living FOR Him. Somes definition of a "follower of Christ" is quite distorted.

Looks like Leviticus's watch is slow... It's 21:40
That's Jewish not Christian. I 'do' ask the same style of rhetorical question though, when I consider how Jesus said we could recognize a believer.

" He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

I don't like the thing within me that provokes that kind of thinking. Christianity is an excellent dharma and salvation for millions of people, and I applaud faith; especially when people express that faith by helping others, as Christians do.
purplepen · 51-55, F
@puck61 I don't think every individual Christian has to display all those signs, but definitely there have been such miracles.
It's called dispensation. Learn about it. Leviticus 19:27 has nothing to do with Christians, and neither do the clothing or dietary laws.
There are 613 Levitical laws. Christians only need worry about ten of them.
@Graylight

14 Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things. 2 For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. 3 Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him. 4 Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.

5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord;[a] and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. 9 For to this end Christ died and rose[b] and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living. 10 But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.[c] 11 For it is written:

“As I live, says the Lord,
Every knee shall bow to Me,
And every tongue shall confess to God.”[d]

12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. 13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.

The Law of Love
14 I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. 15 Yet if your brother is grieved because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died. 16 Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil; 17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 For he who serves Christ in these things[e] is acceptable to God and approved by men.

19 Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another. 20 Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are pure, but it is evil for the man who eats with offense. 21 It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak.[f] 22 Do you have faith?[g] Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. 23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.[h]
@Graylight The law was a teacher for a certain type of people. We are under the law of liberty through grace in Christ Jesus. The law is not abolished for those who insist of trying to foll0w it, but we are not under the law , and those who do by nature, the things contained in the law, are a law unto themselves.

That's what all those scourgings, beatings, humiliations, pains, and the slow death on the cross were all about.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@puck61 I thought so, too. Why is it, then, those same laws, undone by the new covenant, are still invoked to support hatred and prejudice?
Keraunos · 36-40, M
Presumably church, it's Sunday and all.
lehcar · 22-25, F
Got me there tbh
rhouse · 56-60, M
Should be late enough they are all at IHOP @Keraunos
Keraunos · 36-40, M
I was not aware, as I never had much of a sense of how long church gatherings last. Next time I am posed this question on a Sunday afternoon, I will be sure to remember this information, and respond, "Presumably IHOP."
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
My beard makes me a Christian? Well my family will be relieved, I guess.
SW-User
Oh, and I suppose you consider yourself a "real Christian" right?
lehcar · 22-25, F
@th3r0n I'm not Christian at all. I made that post kind of jokingly. A lot of religious people are so quick to say that the Bible says you can't do this, or that, but there are so many things that they overlook. People are very selective with it most of the time.
th3r0n · 41-45, M
@lehcar I’m sad for you, many disregard the law of God and claim him, and those are hypocrites, but those who do not find Jesus do not find hope
lehcar · 22-25, F
Keep living your life trying to find a man that's been dead for 2000 years, and you tell me that you're sad for me. Okay.
Ajz59852 · 36-40, M
I'm a Christian
Newandimproved · 61-69, M
while not praticing
Leviticus is part of the law covenant that was fufilled with the death of christ.
observing the sabbath, circumcision and the rest of the law were no longer binding on christians.
Graylight · 51-55, F
"Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard."

Well, this explains all the lumberjack beards and hair buns.
check · 61-69, M
There are very few real Christians. Probably lot of people disagree.
@check

What constitutes a real christian?
check · 61-69, M
Someone who hasn't fallen for all the Babylonian b.s.
wetncthru · F
Out sinning so as to have something to ask forgiveness for on Sunday?
Preaching something most of them do not practice.
