How can we say we love God, if we cannot love each other? [Spirituality & Religion]

I am still seeing the racism card used. How can we say we love God, yet hate our neighbor ? No matter what color we are, we are still human beings, and should act accordingly and civil to each other. "Should" being the key word here, yet many still...

1 John 4:20
"If we say we love God, but hate others, we are liars. For we cannot love God, whom we have not seen, if we do not love others, whom we have seen."

That's true. But is it possible to love people but hate their bad behavior?

@MyHope God's Word is a good example. It says that God hates our sins, yet loves US, as a person. God loves us, but does not like some of the things we do. But he never hates us. He hates sin, because it separates us from Him. There are people that I love, but I don't necessarily like what they do. Yet, I don't hate them. We are not to hate anyone. But I certainly don't like some of the things they do.

@Sssslm I know what you mean. I feel disappointed, as well. It seems everyone is just out for themselves and so selfish. I find it very difficult to trust anyone anymore, as well. That's a shame.

True, but have you ever lived in a ghetto? Ever been a victim of gang activity? If you read the newspapers or watch the news you'll see how race does define people. I have a black male friend and when he got a higher paying job his friends asked him "why are you acting all white and everything?" You have a nice theory but it doesn't hold up well in the real world, unfortunately

@doughgirl Time and location is no excuse for treating people with no love or respect. We don't have to engage. We don't have to hate or disrespect people. Those who do so, do it because there is hate in their hearts.

I'm perfectly aware of what goes on in this world. I've seen it all. We can use every excuse in the world, but until we start practicing those values Jesus taught, nothing will change. It's always the other person's fault, is the attitude some take, when we ourselves, do not practice the love and respect we should have for others.

That is true, but it’s not just my theory. It’s the way I live and the way God asks us to live. But most people don’t. You’re right about that. @doughgirl

@KneAuxBody God doesn't care? He more than proved that he cared, when he died on the cross to save us from our sins so that we could go to a better place which he has prepared for us, which is heaven. There will be no more tears or sadness there. No more death.
