Since when did Christians get a free pass to judge? [Spirituality & Religion]

I’ll explain....

I was speaking to a couple of so called Christians, regarding a particular subject. When they said that said it’s okay for Christians to judge, and it says so in the Bible. They said the “judge thee lest be judge”, was taken out of context.

This brings new meaning to picking and choosing to fit their likings.

Hello, I wanna see if I can correct the poor teaching you were given. I feel there is a critical confusion of judgement and condemnation. This is a long read, and I apologize.

We make judgements of peoples lives so we can lead people in areas of their lives to live a life worthy of God.

It's like how you make judgements of what to wear based off the weather. You're not going to condemn the weather because it's cold, you're going to adjust the clothing you wear.

Similarly, We are to make judgements of how to lead others based on the current fruit of their life. We are not to condemn others for their lifestyles, we are to adjust our leadership because of their struggles. This applies to believers and non believers alike.

I can look this up for the exact scripture, but yes, we are called to make judgements of people and ourselves in accordance to God's own judgement.

That full scripture says "do not judge by any standard you don't hold yourself to, because I will judge you according to your own standard"

No, we are not supposed to be taught to belittle people; instead we are supposed to be taught to judge [otherwise discern] our own and others whose lives we are part of actions/lifestyles

What is this standard? The standard that we should use is that which is painted throughout the Bible. My favorite example is from psalm 15:2

Who may worship in your sanctuary, Lord ?
Who may enter your presence on your holy hill?

Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth from sincere hearts.

Those who refuse to gossip or harm their neighbors or speak evil of their friends.

Those who despise flagrant sinners, and honor the faithful followers of the Lord , and keep their promises even when it hurts.

Those who lend money without charging interest, and who cannot be bribed to lie about the innocent.

Such people will stand firm forever.

Another example of standards in proverbs 6:16

There are six things the Lord hates— no, seven things he detests:
haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that kill the innocent,
a heart that plots evil,
feet that race to do wrong,
a false witness who pours out lies,
a person who sows discord in a family.

psalm 101
I will be careful to live a blameless life— when will you come to help me?

I will lead a life of integrity in my own home.

I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar.

I hate all who deal crookedly; I will have nothing to do with them.

I will reject perverse ideas and stay away from every evil.

I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors.

I will not endure conceit and pride.

I will search for faithful people to be my companions.

Only those who are above reproach will be allowed to serve me.

I will not allow deceivers to serve in my house, and liars will not stay in my presence.

My daily task will be to ferret out the wicked and free the city of the Lord from their grip.

micah 6:8
No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

So that's kind of the run down on that. These are the standards that we as followers of Christ want. Now, when we share our faith, we are not to say, "you don't live this way or believe this? You're going to hell!"

No, we are to simply teach them about the standards we live by and teach them about our way of life and that we believe God can give them wonderful, new life.

Belittling people and condemnation and all that is not what God intended us for.

Condemnation belongs to God alone, because he is the one who judges our life at the end.

I hope this clears things up somewhat.

@SW-User I wanted to add this.

Jude 1:9
"But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the Satan about the body of Moses, did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, "The Lord rebuke you!" "

I will read this and I will decide what is right some of what you say I agree with all of what the Bible says I believe I do not know the Bible like you think you know it I believe we are to advise like you said it's cold outside maybe you should put on a coat but if they do not put on the coat that is their choice as a leader of a flock you can lead the way the lord directs you to lead your flock your flock only I may be wrong in my thinking I am not perfect nor is anybody not one I have started this but I have to go to work now I am sure we will chat again let me say this I am not a leader of any and I am use I guess I way more than I normally do one judge one God One way the narrow way by him I will be judged and sentenced @SW-User

@SW-User thank you! In this case, they used it as a put down. Mainly as a control tactic. I see what you are saying. I get it.
