I Love Old Songs

[media=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1DWlj1kvLo]
"Moon River" (1962) - Ben E. King

There are many versions of this song and a lot of them are quite beautiful. The only problem I have with some of them is that they're a bit too saccharine for my taste.

This arrangement by Ben E. King ("Stand By Me"; "Spanish Harlem") doesn't suffer from excessive sweetness and it's as lovely as any I've heard. I was surprised to come across it as I wasn't aware he had recorded the song. Needless to say, I'm very glad he did.

That’s really nice! I hadn’t heard it before. Though I’ll always be partial to Audrey Hepburn singing it on that fire escape in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

And this version has a very similar beat to Stand by Me.

@LyricalOne Glad you like this version despite favoring the one by Ms. Hepburn.

It does have a similar beat to the other tune. Seems to work quite well for both of them.

One of my favorites is "Georgia On My Mind" with Ray Charles singing it.

@Shannon27 He certainly did a great version of the song.
Wow! You always have the rarest songs out here....I mean Moon River is one of my most favorite go-to karaoke songs....yet I've never heard this one before!

I wonder why? 🤔😅
@Rutterman Oh yeah, love that movie....😊

About Andy Williams...or Ben King...it's amazing how clear and mellifluously singers in 1960's sang....there's this uncanny crispness in their voice that cannot be felt in today's singers for some reason. 🤷‍♀️ Have you noticed?
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Vivaci Yes, definitely. And going by old film clips, people also had better diction when they spoke.
@Rutterman So true!!! They were disciplined and constantly improvised their ways, didn't they?
One learns what one observes!

Oh, I like this version. Like @LyricalOne, Audrey Hepburn performing it in Breakfast at Tiffany's is my favorite version of this song. I love that movie, and this song in it was perfect. Thanks for posting this. It was fun to listen to a different take on the song.

@ChampagneOnIce You're welcome. Happy you enjoyed listening to this version.

AH's version was perfect for the movie and I found it quite moving when she performed it. I loved the movie as well.

@Elandra77 Nice tune. Don't think I've heard it before.
@Rutterman When Clyde left the Drifters--and was replaced by Ben E king as lead singer- this was his first hit. It's rather forgotten anymore as far as Clyde's songs go. However most remember hearing this. (BTW-I HAVE THIS EXACT 45!)

I have this sing but NOT as a 45!

@Elandra77 Oh yes, I have heard this one, but it's been a long time. Thanks for sharing it.

I so relate to the saccharine comment, lol. For that reason, I also enjoyed this version. Very nice male voice for those vocals. And not too overdone or dramatized.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Magenta Very glad you enjoyed this version. I agree with your comments about it. 😎

@Rutterman ☺️ Thanks for sharing.

Whaaaaat?! 😁I love the way Andy Williams sings this. 💓 Well I have to say, I really DO like this version, ♥️🎶🎻I've never heard it before and it's beautiful✨😌🎼🌜️
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Peaches Andy Williams did a great job. It was his signature song, if I'm not mistaken, and it was a big hit for him. You might like Patti Page's version too.

Glad you like this one, Pam. I think it's beautiful as well. 😎 ✌️

It seems a very 'sweet' song through and through and this one doesn't really differ. Y'know I've been thinking about getting my electric piano (careful choice of words) out I might just do it and see if I can make a 'dirty' version of this (chances are I just don't have the talent but I'll probably give it a go anyway).
Peaches · F
@Rutterman noooooo!🙃
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@GeniUs @Peaches 😄 😆

@Rutterman 😖😜
berangere · 80-89, F
It was known in France,I remember it.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@berangere] I'm glad to hear that. It's a shame it wasn't better-known in the US.
