The song What You Need by INXS just came on my Pandora.
I suddenly remembered a summer when I was around 10-11 years old. My mom was good friends with a wealthy woman whose father owned some department stores in the southern U.S.
She and my mom were pretty close, so my mom would take me and my brother to her mansion on weekends, where we would just chill and swim in her huge swimming pool all day, listening to music and just talking. Those were some of the only good times I remember with my mom. Also- that wealthy woman's cat had kittens one time, and we got to keep a kitten from the litter. We had that cat for years until she died of old age. ❤️
Funny how music and scents can unlock memories like nothing else. I remember the colors (vivid- cerulean pool, yellow sunlight, white glittering concrete surrounding the pool), the smells (grilled meat and suntan lotion and chlorine and honeysuckle), and the general vibe (hopeful, happy, carefree).
