Can You Make Country Songs

Without a country accent? I wanna start making my poems into songs in the various genres that I like, but I'm not sure which platform(s) to put them on or if it's some sort of appropriation as a midwesterner if I make country songs.

Country is such a broad commercial category it is almost non existent. That said, many “country music “ vocalists are actually from the Mid West USA, some are from Canada, many are from California. If they are commercial country artists able to afford high profile agents, record companies, touring managers, they immediately develop, in training, the Fake Texas accent. So, if you want to write for them I’d say that’s very doable.
