is it me or this place became a lot emptier than it used to be

It's a crazy time.
People working; some travelling if they've started the Christmas break early; probably a fair few last minute shopping; and some just generally avoiding.

@Nimbus A friend of mine said his entire family are infected. They all attended the same Christmas party. One is in the hospital on a ventilator, two are flat on their backs in bed, and others are saying they wish they could die. He didn't seem to know what the bug WAS, but said he felt slightly ill the morning I had to drive him to the oncologist.

That sounds food related.
Maybe undercooked shellfish, that is often the cause.
I hope they are back to full health soon.
