Should I volunteer for experience and socializing?

I can't get any job unless it's either too low pay, odd hours/shifts, very physically demanding, and/or low job security. I've been told many times before volunteering is a viable pathway to eventually securing employment in Canada, but I'm skeptical...

A potential employer liking you through connections is exactly what you should be looking for. That's how some of my jobs have started. Networking is crucial and volunteering is an easy entry point!

Learn some skills, practice them, build a portfolio of what you have done and then offer your services at a low price for the first few clients.
