Why do we risk trust even after it’s been shattered?

We need to reassure ourselves. After a devastating event that destroys our trust, we have an intrinsic need to rebuild it, because we humans are social animals, like the rest of the ape family. Even among introverts, total isolation can cause personality disorders and mental illnesses.
