A question for the women

I was invited to a sad movie marathon pajama party girl’s night this Friday.
And I know this doesn’t matter, but I’m anxious and I don’t know the person that invited me very well. I don’t know what to wear. Most of the time I sleep in an oversized (not cute) shirt or sweatshirt. I have active shorts I could wear with it, but other people are probably going to be wearing cute pajamas, right?
I have a few nighties but they’re either like not cute muumuus or sexy ones, and those don’t feel right.
I found this super cute set online, but it doesn’t look stretchy and I’m scared to order it and either be bursting out of those buttons, or look dumpy if I try to size up
My best options are either this set I have with the palm trees. I have the matching top and bottom (sorry about the dog hair I pulled them out of the laundry to look at them)
The only problem is the top is a tank top and it kind of hangs a little under the arms, and I’m worried I’m going to be self conscious with my arms out.
I could wear my hair down like I did here, but I just don’t feel confident with this choice
and then I have these cute shorts, but I don’t have a matching top. I could go out and buy either a white or maybe a pink shirt to go with it

Or should I just go out and try to find something else entirely?
itsok · 31-35, F Pinned Comment
I got the pink set and it’s really pretty. It’s super soft and stretchy, too. 😌 I now feel slightly more confident

@itsok let us know how your evening goes

ninalanyon · 61-69, T
Good grief girl. You are gorgeous. Just wear whatever feels comfortable and hold your head high. Nothing wrong with mismatched tops and bottoms, just have the right attitude, lots of attitude! It's a pyjama party not a Dior couture event. Anyone going out of the way to dress up is either missing the point or the kind of person you surely wouldn't rate highly in the first place.

What have you got to lose? Just be yourself, your own self not someone else's Idea of what you should be.
Plasticbag · 100+, M
@ninalanyon exactly right
I just came in to see how many guys answered since it said question for woman. 😂😂😂😂
@itsok I know. Just have to laugh. 😂😂
Magenta · F
@Sojournersoul Ugh, so annoying.
@Magenta Yup. Knew it would happen.
mindstruggle · 31-35, F
In case you're not at ease with what you buy online, it's a good idea to go to a physical store and find the one you like to wear. Think about it as if it were Halloween; you have the freedom to wear whatever you want.
itsok · 31-35, F
@mindstruggle that’s what I’m gonna do, thank you
itsok · 31-35, F
I’m second guessing myself. What if the people who invited me don’t really want me there and hope I don’t show up. I’m thinking I should just say something came up and not go. I hate that I’m like this
itsok · 31-35, F
@Cassieeeee at this point everything is so wrapped up in anxiety and self doubt that I truly don’t know what I want. I know that I would feel relief if I didn’t go, because I would stop thinking about all the ways I’m just going to embarrass myself.
My therapist says I should live a life of doing. But that is so hard to do.
I like the idea of going when it doesn’t involve me actually thinking about going.
deadteddy · 26-30, F
@itsok I think they wouldn’t have invited you if they didn’t want you there. A PJ party is something kinda intimate imo, so they probably mean it. It’s not like it’s a wedding that they’re forced to invite people because of formalities etc. I would say go there and if at any point you feel uncomfortable, just leave. Make sure to go in your own car too.
Cassieeeee · 31-35, F
@itsok My therapist told me the same, and I try my best to be social and go do things, but I know exactly what you mean. Most of time I do feel happy afterwards that I went, and sometimes I can feel my battery draining while I'm out, and just want to go home again. Beauty about that tho, is that if you at some point feel that it was a mistake, you can always go home, and if not you'll have a good time🩷
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Tbh, I went to a trip last June where I had no idea who I was going to be with in the camping bungalow but I took something neutral and looking "new" enough to not feel sloppy and raggedly. I ended up with 3 girls aged 25-26 and one of them had typical cute pajamas with cartoon motives and another had sexy lingerie. 😆 They teased each other a bit and that was it. We didn't have our own bathroom and had to walk through the camp to showers/ toilets and back so you can imagine how much fun we had...Honestly, I don't even remember what top I had, just that I had pajama shorts because I was cold as hell when I had to walk through that camp.

Strangers? I suggest something substantial'

LOL I guess that's why you asked the women....

BobbyMoeven · 51-55, M
I gotta say ..

I giggled at how many dudes chimed in on this post ..even though your headline is 'A question for women'. ..

Now that im here , the only thing that I have to say is that I am disappointed that I wasn't invited ...

It'd be like when I did aqua aerobics class all over again 😁
Aami1 · 26-30, F
@BobbyMoeven anyone who identifies as a woman can be one
BobbyMoeven · 51-55, M
@Aami1

Although i do understand your good measure ...

There is a bit of light hearted humour in my , response , having been familiar with many of the folk who responded ... I don't play the x's and y's game , i just act accordingly .

😊
I think going with the flamingo shorts and a plain comfy top would be nice. Comfy, cute, and safe. If it were me I'd probably just go buy a new matching set though. Marshalls and TJMaxx tend to have cute sets for reasonable prices.
itsok · 31-35, F
@Nadie I went ahead and ordered the pink set, and if it doesn’t fit right I’m gonna go out on Thursday and get something new. Or a top to go with the flamingo shorts. Thank you. I will check Marshall’s, I didn’t even think of them
@itsok you sound like me with the overthinking. 😅 You'll be cute in anything.
itsok · 31-35, F
@Nadie I know I’m overthinking it, but I’m not gonna calm down unless something feels perfect 😵

A question for the women

(I hope you have lots of fun!)
itsok · 31-35, F
@JRVanguard 😂
Thank you
BarbossasHusband · 36-40, M
I agree with NerdyPotato.
Comfort is key. If it was me going I'd wear pj bottoms I also use as regular pants, and a tanktop. Counts as pj, but works as casual daywear aswell.
As for the hair, I think a messy bun would do the trick. You could arrive with your hair down then put it up later if you feel like it.
rosyhills · 31-35, F
The palm trees looks fine.

This reminds me of my first sleep over at 10.
I was gonna take something I usually sleep in.
Mom wanted me to wear matching pajamas.
I remember I ended up wearing a red Christmas pajama set with Christmas stuff all over it. It was April...Meanwhile everyone else had on t-shirt and shorts 🥴😄
deadteddy · 26-30, F
I would get the first one and size up if you’re not too sure about the true size . Especially if you’ve worn a size up before and it still looked good. I for instance can wear a size up, it looks a bit more “baggy “ but nothing like wearing a potato sack lol.
itsok · 31-35, F
@deadteddy ok I ordered it. Thank you
mooncrest02 · 31-35, F
No, if its a pajama party like you kinda have to wear cute pajamas and i think it ok to buy some specifically for pajama parties. Lol
Forever 21 has the cutest ones rn, idk if you like rompers but they fit nicely and so comfy!
itsok · 31-35, F
@mooncrest02 I was thinking the same thing! I ordered the pink set. I haven’t gotten anything from forever 21 in so long, I forgot about them!
mooncrest02 · 31-35, F
@itsok yes, don't sleep on them! The pink set looks really pretty☺️
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
The shit we put ourselves through to have a bit of fun haha. I'm not the target audience but I do think you should wear what you end up feeling the most comfortable in (from an anxiety inducing perspective).
itsok · 31-35, F
@Turtlepower nothing feels right at this point 😣 and I know it’s just because of my anxiety
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
@itsok If you're going to be anxious no matter what, then go for appropriate physical comfort and eff the haters :) (easier said than done I'm sure).
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
every man lines up to give his expertise on pyjama parties
itsok · 31-35, F
@Aami1 he probably looks right beside their age, at the M they’ve decided to show people publicly
@CountScrofula what else are we going to comment on when the rest of the feed is 3 days old? 🤷
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@itsok It's nature's pronoun declaration.
Cassieeeee · 31-35, F
If I was invited to that I would immediately think of pajamas as being comfy. Would probably wear oversized T-shirt and shorts or some comfy pants 🥹
Comfort is the whole idea of a pajama party, so maybe going out to find something new is the best option.
@NerdyPotato I agree with this.
itsok · 31-35, F
@NerdyPotato I ordered the pink and if it doesn’t feel right when it’s delivered I’ll just go out and find something else
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
I'd probably use this as an excuse to go buy something new and if I didn't find anything I liked after 1-2 stores, I'd grow frustrated and convince myself that I don't care if I wear the ugly oversized tshirt.
I usually wear an graphic t and cheap leggings so I'd easily be able to just figure out something with them but I do love to buy pajamas with sheep on them when I find them so maybe I'd look for new sleep sheep.

I hope you have fun whatever you decide to wear! 😊
itsok · 31-35, F
@Starcrossed thank you!
Sequoia51 · 70-79, M
You will look Lovely in Anything You Are Comfortable Wearing
sben4200 · 51-55, M
I'm not going to comment on what you should do since you wanted a female opinion on that (and it seems like you've already decided) but I just had to say, you are gorgeous in the photo with the palm tree top.
Also, originally being from Miami, I love anything with palm trees or flamingos. You have great taste in PJs.
IM5688 · 61-69, M
IMO, you worry too much. Whatever sleepwear you choose, you will look great in. Don't overthink it. Go with what you feel most comfortable in, enjoy the party and the movies and have yourself a good time.
itsok · 31-35, F
@IM5688 I am a worrier and overthinker. I don’t feel like I have a choice with those things
IM5688 · 61-69, M
@itsok I am also, but if you work at it, you can overcome it little by little over time.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
I think the matching tank top would be fine with the cute blue shorts. If you’re unsure you could pair the shirts with a shift

I agree not to wear anything sexy.

You will have a good time and it will be a great chance to make new friends
Sapio · 51-55, M
Online can be a gamble. So maybe got out to a retail store where you can try on the item before you purchase it. That way you can see it with your own eyes and get the fit you desire.
itsok · 31-35, F
@Sapio I gambled, and I’ll go out on Thursday if it’s not right
Do you have a blue or green shirt to use for the shorts that would match? Or maybe do in person shopping for a set so you can try it on and see if the vibe fits.
itsok · 31-35, F
@666Maggotz I don’t, but I went ahead and just ordered the pink set. It’s supposed to arrive on Wednesday, and if it doesn’t fit right I’ll just go out on Thursday and try to find something else. Thank you
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
It has just occurred to me that I, and @BarbossasHusband, strictly don't qualify for answering this question.

:-)
itsok · 31-35, F
@ninalanyon you’re fine.
Your dress is cute!
BarbossasHusband · 36-40, M
@itsok I figured I'd answer since I've lived as a female all my life and have 3 younger sisters.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@itsok Thank you!
SUPERVlXEN · F
I'd go wearing my usual tee, and add a pair of cute panties for the occasion.
itsok · 31-35, F
@SUPERVlXEN panties?
SUPERVlXEN · F
@itsok
I'd not go bare! 👀
squishylemon · 26-30, F
Id probably not go to a sad movie marathon in the first place, im alr sad enough.
itsok · 31-35, F
@squishylemon I’m sad too, but I figured it would be a good social thing for me to do
GunFinger · F
The one with palm trees is cute. You look gorgeous nomatter what you wear.😊
itsok · 31-35, F
@GunFinger thank you so much ☺️
Notsimilarreally · 31-35, F
Whatever you would be most comfortable and confident in. If it was me I'd probably go out and find one in person
Samek · 36-40, M
Okay, I know you already picked but those flamingo shorts are awesome!
Selah ·
The pink one is so cute and you're gorgeous girl
itsok · 31-35, F
@Selah I ordered it! Thank you
Selah ·
@itsok you're making me want to get cute pajamas. I usually wear those thin cheap body con dresses as a night gown.
Bowenw · 61-69, M
I suggest you ask the host what style of pajamas people usually wear for girls' night.
Lilymoon · F
Shop for some in person and try it on
itsok · 31-35, F
@Lilymoon I went ahead and ordered the pink set and if it doesn’t feel right I’ll go out on Thursday and get something else
Something oversized and comfy
Teslin · M
Just don't buy it online. Go to a store and find a pair you are comfortable wearing.
It's about you being comfortable. Not what others think.
Teslin · M
@itsok I have had bad experience buying things online, if it is not a brand name I am familiar with. Good luck and enjoy the party.
itsok · 31-35, F
@Teslin it is a brand I have quite a bit of. It’s the same brand as the palm tree set I already own, but the material and style are different
Teslin · M
@itsok OK. Then you feel safe ordering it 😊
PinkMoon · 26-30, F
The ones you have are great.
You should wear this.

Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
I like the palm trees
tallpowerhouseblonde · 36-40, F
You could buy some cute pyjamas for the party.Going into an actual shop rather than buying online would be best.You can then wear them at home and get good use out of them.You look great with your hair down.
Oh man... Women's biggest trouble....

Anyway...
I'd suggest pack both in your bag and change there according to the party
lonelyloner · 31-35, F
ever try silk house coat ? if not you may try , both attractive and comfortable
Aami1 · 26-30, F
'only women'? Define 'woman'.
itsok · 31-35, F
@Aami1 for the people who would attend a girl’s night. But I didn’t want to say girls, as anyone who sees this post will be an adult
REMsleep · 41-45, F
Don't overthink it. You can wear Lululemon style tights and a cute T-shirt. I would wear something that I could also wear outside which is basically what I wear everyday. Just be yourself and be relaxed which is the main part of having fun. I wouldn't order anything on short notice because you seem anxious and it's better to go to Walmart and just buy the stuff I mentioned or a cute pajamas from them that you can try on the spot to make sure that you feel comfortable in it.
Your beautiful. Go and have fun
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
Since you addressed this question to me personally, I am going to suggest the not cute Muumuu. Unless it is a formal dress pajama party?
itsok · 31-35, F
@pancakeslam black tie pajama party

itsok · 31-35, F
@pancakeslam I’d never get invited back
What you already own is absolutely awesome and you look beautiful. You don’t have to spend a penny more unless you’d just like something new. Either way it should be about you being comfortable and having a really good time. 😊
SkeetSkeet · 100+, F
You could be a new oversized shirt and wear your favorite one. That way you can feel comfortable and like yourself at this party.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
I think you look beautiful in the palm trees and that top set will look great on you too.
itsok · 31-35, F
@iamonfire696 thank you!
