Do you remember your first trip to a large city where you found out that smiling politely at strangers is completely unacceptable?

I was born/grew up in a big city so I always was closed off with strangers,I struggled more to do the opposite when I would visit family or go on vacation in smaller parts and everyone was more friendly /chatty or knew me but I didn't know them lmao so I think I came across as antisocial
