What have you had to do to protect yourself that you did not want to do

I shut off my heart. Gave up on relationships. I ignore so much pain. I used to let people walk all over me out of fear. I let people hurt me a little bit for fear they'd hurt me worse if I stood up for myself. There's a lot. And now I hate feeling on the defensive so avoid pretty much everything possible.

I buried my emotions to the point that I'm having trouble connecting with them again.

With disastrous consequences. I once liked a girl but couldn't let myself get closer because i thought she would never understand a particular problem I was struggling with. Ultimately she moved on after we had a blow out, but we really did have a good thing going. So sad.. I've wondered how she's doing ever since. That's life.
