All you have to do is read the Old Testament and you will read about the often repeated merry go round that happened with the Hebrews and God.. The Jews would be down the bottom subject to poverty and persecution They would become very mindful of God and God would pull them out of their desperate situation and bless them with peace and prosperity.. Then the Jews would become corrupt and party like it's 1999.. Then God would strike them with a plague or allow some foreign power to smash them and carry them away to be used as slaves.. Then the Jews would suddenly get devout again and call out to the LORD to save them.. This whole circular process happened again and again and again over the centuries.... Persecution, liberation, prosperity, corruption, defeat, persecution, liberation, prosperity, corruption, defeat, wash and repeat over and over again until 70 ad when the Romans where the force that finally put an end to that dance when they destroyed Jerusalem and banished the Jews to the corners of the Roman empire and beyond..
People are the same today as they where in 4000 BC.. When prosperity comes corruption soon follows and then some hardened outside force comes in and smashes the decadent mess the corruption has fostered and we start all over again..
