Most of IT people I met this year told me they are paid for doing nothing. They don't even need to come to work, as they are allowed to work distantly.

@CrazyMusicLover I worked in IT in some sense all my working life, I was never paid to do nothing.

@ninalanyon I don't really know how it works nowadays. But I met my friend recently who lives and works abroad and he told me it makes him feel a little bit bad because he doesn't have enough work to do yet money comes to his account every month, he can go wherever he wants to in his working time and he was "at work" even at time of out meeting. I was stunned. Like...what most people would do to live like that and it makes him feel bad and useless.
Another case were corporate people at my cousin's wedding. They told me they watch Youtube videos during their working time because they are not getting enough work to do. 😐

@CrazyMusicLover In my whole working life there was always more work to do than the time available to do it. I could never say to myself that I had run out of work.
To me it also sounds like those people are lazy; there is always something that needs doing. If they can't see it then they must have their eyes closed. I'm glad I never worked with people like that.
As for working at home or wherever they happen to be, well I see nothing wrong with that. Most technical people I know do that to some degree or another. My last boss would occasionally rent a cabin in the mountains in the winter and work there. When he got bored he would go skiing, but he always got the work done and was always available by phone or video.

It is about wise working not working hard. You can be motivated and wake up at 5AM everyday work as a luggage carrier and will have the same job for 20 years! That’s because you don’t have the initiative to move out and move up ⬆️

It is another one of those stereotypes that make no sense, where people just blindly parrot someone elses belief without actually thinking for themselves.

I couldn’t agree more.
