Do you expect people to follow you back if you follow them?
Especially if you have had little to no conversation with them.

Given the state of this site, if you want post on your feed your going to have to follow others as well as they follow you.
Your feed will suffer if you don't. So I don't see any choice now.
Before these changes, I actually rarely followed anyone. And often removed those who followed me.
I actually don't block or mute anyone though. Never have.
