I'm horrible at small talk. I don't want to talk about the weather or what you ate for dinner. Let's get to the meat of the situation and stop wasting time with fluff. If that's all that is happening I'll fall silent and move on.

I've gotten better at it. I've been told that it's very hard to get to the meaty stuff without first suffering thru small talk. Just try to take it further by asking questions. Thats what i do..

Them: "oh this rainy weather"
Me: what do you like to do when it rains? I always read a book...

Or whats your favorite season? Still weather related but taking it further. If they like summer..." What did you do this past summer"?
