Xanax and Pain

Is Xanax .5 a high dose? My mother is 84 years old and that is the dose she is taking, .5 We had heard that .25 and .5 is not a low dose for the elderly, it is safe for them to take. Last week she saw a new doctor for the first time, he told her that .5 xanax is a high dose and that he will continue to give it to her but she is not sure how many tablets he is going to give her. Mom is very depressed! She told me this morning that its not selfish when a person think certain ways.

.5 is not a high dose.
Some patients can receive far higher doses (by comparison).

Although it's recommended that patients taking Xanax do so combined with therapy.
The idea being to keep the patients reliance on medication to a minimum and so easily weaning them off it.

There are concerns that higher dosages for the elderly can cause more harm than good, this is because extensive use of Benzodiazapines have an effect on the Liver that can cause severe problems especially in the elderly.
