Xanax and Pain

Is Xanax .5 a high dose? My mother is 84 years old and that is the dose she is taking, .5 We had heard that .25 and .5 is not a low dose for the elderly, it is safe for them to take. Last week she saw a new doctor for the first time, he told her that .5 xanax is a high dose and that he will continue to give it to her but she is not sure how many tablets he is going to give her. Mom is very depressed! She told me this morning that its not selfish when a person think certain ways.

Xanax is very addictive.
Old people are at higher risk for toxic build up. Their bodies don't clear the drug as quickly as when they were younger.
