Unexpected reunion

I went for a Xmas meal with a couple of old friends. We'd preordered so once seated a young waitress came to check our preorder. I did notice her stumble a little when she read out my name but thought nothing of it.

She and a colleague served us through the evening. We came to settle up the bill and she runs the till. As we finish she says "You won't remember me but my mum is<insert name >".

Omg! 20 years ago on a freezing cold night her mum who was about her age now was at a meeting I was at. As I locked up and asked how she was her waters broke. Called her mum who was broken down coming to get her. So I got her into my car and drove her to hospital waiting until her mum turned up. Now the baby born that night was serving me.

As she grew up her mum used to tell her that story and she always asked what my name was so it's imprinted in her memory.

She lives with her grandma and is studying for a pharmacy degree. I use to work with one of the profs who teach her for added coincidence.

'Twas just lovely to see her. Her boss was hugging me like I was some hero. I just drove a pregnant young woman in need to a hospital 20 years ago lol
