What should define us?

We are having a debate in the office as to whether race or culture should be the primary defining characteristic for people. I believe that culture has more to do with it, as the majority of people on the planet are of “beige” colouration and the word “Black” is a misnomer defined by a Latin term, “negro” which someone in antiquity used to describe African and some South American and Micronesian peoples, erroneously.

I prefer the memorable words of Dr. Martin Luther King

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character

We can live in difficult or even horrible cultures, yet, we have the wherewithal to refine our characters to rise above them. We should ever strive to do so.
