I an actively doing ancestry research, spent quite some time in various archives, managed to trace ancestors in Switzerland, Germany an England, did a DNA test and traced my oldest ancestor to the year 960.
Not too proud though that some were mercenaries for the French kings...

@Stephie If you can trace it to Charlemagne you can trace it back to the earliest German ancestors. 25% of Americans have a New England Blue Blood ancestors from the Mayflower, have a ancestor from England who was a noble (I found at least 2), and their ancestory goes that exact path.
I checked again about a year ago and got a few roman noble hits. I am also descended from a germanic sea manatee diety, and it's descent is from Troy. Because that sort of stuff impressed the Germans in the dark ages.
