Yes. It means "with Man" .. a belonging.. wif was with in old English that became wife. Effectively girls were considered no entity even in terminology. Wif male became female. Once girls get to know this, nothing can come in their way to liberation.
Until then they are considered subservient to male, men.

@in10RjFox However, in Paul's writings we learn that in God's eyes there are neither Jews nor Greeks, men or women, we are all equal in His sight; how arrogant of humans to set women at a lower place! Yes, Paul also wrote the head of man is the Christ, the head of women is the man, the head of children is the mother. This doesn't change the first quote, but is purely for the peace of the home and the church.
