What makes human life valuable?

Don't act as if this question is a weird thing to contemplate either. Throughout most of human history, and in MANY societies today, it doesn't take all that much to get killed. Things that are normal and celebrated in one place, get you killed in another. So, what basis do we say human life has value?

Compassion. I know what the fear of death feels like, so I don't want other people to die.

Life is valuable, or not on an individual basis. I feel fortunate to have my life, and even though it goes up, and down, there's a wonderful balance in the middle. Human life is only valuable if you put in an effort to make it valuable. For me, it's the simple things in life that make it valuable. Listening to a good song, partying with friends and family, going skateboarding at 3am, when no one is on the street. Life is what you make it, so make it valuable, and live it.

Not everyone has the same values so it differs for every individual. Groups of people share cultures so they get taught to think the same thing but still it boils down to what reason does that individual have for killing another person. It could range anywhere from religious sacrifice to just plain greed. I think the value of a life is determined by thier potential to create in thier life time. This is why we prioritize the protection of children in our culture.

And if you have alot it attracts others who want it for themselves.

I got a value chart map to fill in from my therapist. To get a clearer image of my values. It impacts our actions and prevents self destruction.

I think that our contemplation of our place in the universe combined with our senses makes human life special and unique.

You're writing the basis of the answer yourself, insisting that human life is valuable, in despite of the available evidence

It's not. We're just an integral part of biology. We happen to be intelligent and curious creatures, but we're not valuable. Mostly destructive.

Human life has value insofar as it contributes to value.

In my opinion all humans have value intrinsically unless they’re humans who objectively seek evil and harm innocents.
I'm the eyes and ears of the universe.

I live an anime fantasy bubble with my dog.

it doesn't take all that much to get killed
that's why. it's fragile and life is short. We talk a lot about overpopulation, but in the grand scheme of the world, the universe and all that, human life, intelligent life, is extremely rare.
Value is ultimately a subjective thing though.
That's my take on it.

human life does have intrinsic value
but as you say many places and times.. it is treated like trash

Simply waking up with a roof over my head, a job I enjoy, my interests, music, kind people. Food, drink, all these things and more are valuable to me because they're everyday things I can hang on to.
I don't think or worry about about being killed because I could crash and burn in my car tomorrow. I'd rather try to think positive.
