Housing should be a human right

Public housing in form of large panel system-buildings would be a good way to combat homelessness and the housing crisis.

100% agree, but we do need to look at how and why public housing has, in large, become a disaster.

@Ontheroad I don’t know what country you live in. I live in the USA. They say that 60% of all Housing & Urban Development properties are lived in by illegals. There are Americans who are working basic jobs can’t afford to pay rent now because of this. Some do work two jobs to be able to have shelter, some have moved back with their parents and others become homeless.
Ontheroad · M
@cherokeepatti I live in the U.S. too and whoever "they" are, but they are wrong. I think it was a post on FB that made that claim and it has been checked and checked by different fact checking organizations and found to be totally false (a lie)... it's more like 1%.

@cherokeepatti
There are Americans who are working basic jobs can’t afford to pay rent now because of this. Some do work two jobs to be able to have shelter, some have moved back with their parents and others become homeless.
The direct result of US capitalist economy.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Gloomy blame the capitalists and not the government allowing and encouraging illegals to immigrate here to take over. American taxpayers are footing the bill.
Gloomy · F
@cherokeepatti has already been debunked and some people earn barely enough to get by in certain jobs because of bad labor laws don't try to pin everything on migration this is so cheap and simple minded like right wingers in any countries do it despite there not being evidence to trace all issues back to it. Just appeals to a bias
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Gloomy Bull crap. How do you house tens of millions of illegals when there aren’t enough homes for them to live in?
Gloomy · F
@cherokeepatti Illegal migrants are not just a negative on a countries economy
Undocumented immigrants make up approximately 3.2 percent of the U.S. population, but 4.4 percent of the country’s workforce.
There are more than 7 million undocumented immigrants working in the United States.
In 41 states and Washington, D.C., there are more than 10,000 undocumented workers, and in 16 states that total is greater than 100,000.
In every state, undocumented immigrants make up a larger share of the workforce than they do the total population.
California and Texas are home to the largest undocumented workforce, with 1.4 million and 1.2 million undocumented workers, respectively.
More than 1.4 million undocumented immigrants work in construction, accounting for 13 percent of all construction workers.
Nearly 1 million undocumented immigrants work in accommodation and food services, approximately 8.4 percent of all workers in the industry.
710,000 undocumented workers make up 10 percent of the administrative and support and waste management industries, and another 489,000 undocumented workers in nonpublic administration services are also overrepresented in the field.
Approximately 25 percent of workers in farming, fishing, and forestry occupations are undocumented—although this is likely an undercount—as are 16 percent of workers in construction and extraction occupations.
15 percent of workers in building and grounds cleaning and maintenance occupations are undocumented.
7 percent of workers in food preparation and serving-related occupations are undocumented.
7 percent of workers in production occupations are undocumented.
6 percent of workers in transportation and material moving occupations are undocumented.
Nearly 1 in 5 landscaping workers, maids or housekeepers, and construction laborers are undocumented immigrants.
Nearly 30 percent of agricultural workers or painters are undocumented.
Like in most western countries jobs citizens refuse to or simply cannot do fall on to migrants. Migrant bashing doesn't help the overall situation.

Also that is why I am in favor of building large panel system buildings. Not too expensive and can house more people. The housing market is in private hands and there is land on which only single family homes can be build. The suburb system is terrible etc...
Instead of wanting to progress people like you rather shift the blame on to a group of people.

@cherokeepatti Seriously a silly debunked facebook post? Why do old people fall for this crap and the Great Reset? 😂 Like come on how can you expect anyone to take you seriously. Just cause the headline is the word "Facts" doesn't make this any true.
Ontheroad · M
@cherokeepatti another post filled with false (lies) information.

@Gloomy
. Just cause the headline is the word "Facts" doesn't make this any true.
That is true on both sides now isn't it?
The word "Fact" gets thrown around as loosely as the word "vintage" does when people are trying to sell old junk.

Every time I see anything on the web talking about "Fact check" it reminds me of when a kid is trying to BS and says, "I swear on my mother's grave" or maybe "cross my heart hope to die".
Like oh well then it MUST be true!

Both sides of any debate throw around the word "fact", that word means nothing now.
Gloomy · F
@CestManan But when you look at the fact check I provided there are all the sources linked that are further proof.

Sorry but there are legit sources and real studies and work being done and even if you struggle to trust in scientific research it still holds more value than random Facebook posts with zero reputation that even brings up a famous conspiracy theory.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Ontheroad Funny I heard that DHS workers know how many of these illegals are getting benefits for food stamps, housing, insurance etc. Heard about it a few years ago from the mother of a DHS worker.
Ontheroad · M
@cherokeepatti there are states that for instance have SNAP like programs for some undocumented aliens, but I think it's something like 5 states and they don't get federal dollars for the program, just state dollars. The same goes for housing assistance, but again, it's limited to a few states and the numbers are but a small percentage of the population... probably in the 1-2% neighborhood.

Federal dollars (from taxes) are not used.
specman · 51-55, M
@Gloomy how do they get statistics from an undocumented people? And what year did they do their study of the actual unknown percentage of illegals?
specman · 51-55, M
@Ontheroad No illegals should get anything except for a trip back on the other side of the border. They are known law breakers we have enough criminals here already. I’m against giving them a court date and letting them loose in the states too. They shouldn’t be in the states. They are still illegals. I used to say throw them in jail. But with overcrowding and the fact my having to pay for them with my tax dollars.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@specman don't say that, because then somebody will post a lecture about how we need to be sensitive and Humane and welcoming and all that bs.
Gloomy · F
@CestManan Yes how terrible to expect humane ways to treat people 🙄

Like seriously you are morally rotten
specman · 51-55, M
@CestManan yes. I wouldn’t doubt it! Lol
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Gloomy aw shucks🥹
specman · 51-55, M
@CestManan I see that you have been degraded to rotten. Lol
It goes to show people who preach that they have the answer to the downtrodden’s problems just called you rotten! Lol !
Gloomy · F
@specman Everyone can have rotten morals no matter the societal standing 🤷‍♀️
CestManan · 46-50, F
@specman I'm not sure why I am so horrible supposedly, I mean yeah there is a lot of greed involved with real estate but I think we would be lying if we were to say any one of us wanted to just give away places to live.
