@lumberjackslam Commensalism is just a relationship between organisms of different species where one derives a benefit and the other receives neither a benefit nor a harm. This can be contrasted with parasitism -- where one is harmed and the other benefits -- and symbiosis -- where both benefit. I have a commensalist relationship with humanity as a whole because I benefit from being part of society, whereas society doesn't benefit from me being in it.
