Oldies are now music that was new when I was a young kid?

I feel old now and I miss the old "Classic Rock" that the classic rock station used to play.
Old music is 'Bicycle Built for Two."

Anything else is recent. I don't care what they say.

Madonna and Whitney were both having hits when I was born. They are two of my favourite singers but their best songs are 30-something years old now. They still get played on the radio regularly.

When I was a kid the radio was playing Chuck Berry and Frank Sinatra...

The Oldies radio station no longer plays 50’s and 60’s music, it’s 70’s and 80’s music now. They need a station for just those two decades.

@cherokeepatti I know what you mean, When the classic oldies used to play, my sister was a teenager and I grew up listening and liking her music. I still do today. My brother-in-law was a road manager/garage band leader for The New Colony Six at one time, and he liked the "golden oldies"too.

I know it's so weird. What's really weird is that my kids like some of the music I liked when I was a kid.

@Lilliesandlight When I was working in the dorms one of the students was playing the soundtrack from The Graduate and acting like it was new music. I was happy she was enjoying it and discovered how good it was.

@cherokeepatti I know it's cute how my son is the biggest blink 182 fan, lol. His favorite album came out before he was born. ☺️

🤔....lol...I remember back in the mid 70's listening to oldies from the 50's....Man, I must be old....lol

@Jimmy2016 You aren't that old. I remember when these songs you refer to were new.My sister (seven years older) would take a stack of 45's and me over to her girlfriend's house and she would play them on her player on the patio. (My mom couldn't stand what she called "bebop" and we couldn't do it at home.) I loved them then, and I still do today..

I don't feel old, and I grew up with the classic rock because my sister used to play 45's in my hearing (she is seven years my senior) and used to bring me along to her girlfriend's who lived in the next block and had a record player. Her parents didn't mind, but ours downgraded our tastes as "bebop" and hated our choices. They liked Mitch Miller.
Welcome my friends to the show that never ends,
