God has no gender and is beyond our comprehension.

@HoraceGreenley if he is beyond your comprehension then how can you know he has no gender? One issue I have with the religious is when they argue ‘the human mind can’t possibly understand god’ when presented with an absurdity in their religion, but then also ‘but we have been able to understand god so well that we’ve managed to create a several hundred page book on how he thinks we should live’. I’m not saying this is you or attacking you, just the concept I laid out. I mean even if he did openly appear to people and start explaining stuff, by the logic that we can’t comprehend gods mind, shouldn’t our brains just explode by hearing god speak? Which should have happened to Noah etc

@pianoplayingsteve God reveals himself to us

@HoraceGreenley All of the gods that people have worshipped have a gender. You can create one who is simply a "thing" if you want to.

@Diotrephes The One God is not a god

@HoraceGreenley
The One God is not a god
Can you expound on that?
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Diotrephes You don't know?
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@HoraceGreenley You made a statement. I simply asked you for additional details.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Diotrephes Do i have to state the incredibly obvious?
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@HoraceGreenley OK, you don't want to participate in a cordial discussion so I will no longer respond to you.

Choose to walk away.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Diotrephes It's not your post. You walk away.

@pianoplayingsteve I am also bothered with the contradiction between understanding that if there is a god it would be beyond our understanding (which I fully agree with) and then believing in a book that specifically descibes completely anthropomorphic behaviors of god. I feel true humility should make us reject any description of god and be content with not knowing. its the ego that wants to know.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@reflectingmonkey Like an adult interacting with a 2 year old, God can present Himself to humanity in a way that we can understand. But that presentation is not His total being.
reflectingmonkey · 51-55, M
@HoraceGreenley i agree with that, this is why hindus have so many avatars of god and why they don't feud over which is the real one, they know that they are all just models fit for the simple human mind. however, the bible portrays god in a very unflattering manner, depicting a god who gets angry and commits horrible acts, its insulting. as if the wisest being in existence would require worship or destroy whole cities because they "live in sin". everyone agrees that Hitler was a bad guy but the god of the bible commits far worst acts of destruction. for this reason, out of respect for a god that I cannot understand, I rejected the bible as blasphemy. there is an expression used in advaita vedenta which says "neti neti", " not this, not that", it means any time you think you understand god, forget it, its not that. whatever thought you have about this concept, its not that.

@reflectingmonkey Big difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament. Remember people wrote the Bible. The difference reflects people not God.
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@reflectingmonkey not everyone agrees that he was a bad guy, he won times man of the year
reflectingmonkey · 51-55, M
@HoraceGreenley I guess we agree then 🙏
