I Hate Gender Roles And Stereotypes

I really struggle with this one and I have all of my life. I never quite fit the assigned role for me growing up. I've listened many times the positive messages of "you do you" but can still hear the echoes of less obvious cues that tell a very different message. I'm reminded again and again that terms like "quirky" and "different" aren't messages of acceptance. They hold hidden agendas behind them to let me know I do not fit what is expected. I like these things about myself, but deep inside I know I would be happier if I were just "normal".

Normal is boring. There are people who worry so much about being different for the sake of just being different. You being called quirky isn't a bad thing. Just like when somebody tells someone else that they are funny, it sometimes just means they're funny. You don't need to try to be offended by everything. I embrace how I am different from others.
