My heart is aching. It's 2023 and yet human life in Gaza is considered worthless 馃挃

I'm afraid that the Israelis have doomed themselves to having tens of thousands of new enemies by randomly killing innocents while seeking vengence. I know they do not consider the man Jesus (if he ever really existed) as being the messiah but the truths expressed in the parables for how to treat others and the sermon on the mount are powerful. Turning the other cheek does not mean forgetting, but forgiveness is a powerful response. The marshall plan in Europe after WWII and the Berlin airlift were unusual responses to aggression that prevented decades of war. By not doing this Israel now faces an inevitable consequence of unimaginable retribution. It may even have been an existential decision that was wrong. They can drive everyone in Gaza into the sea but in doing so I fear they have sealed their own fate. Kindness or retribution? Those were the choices. They chose wrong. From this we must learn and use the lesson to prevent a similar dilemma with Taiwan and other hot spots.

@Tastyfrzz Israel does not seek vengeance. Their only intention is to destroy Hamas who place their rocket throwers in schools and mosques. The Gaza population apparently doesn't mind. Have you ever heard of any protests inside Gaza against Hamas terrorism?

@helenS If Hamas was inside Israeli territories, would the army bomb Israeli civilians?
helenS36-40, F
@Harmonium1923 It's hard to believe how parents are fine with their children "learning" in schools which are hiding places for rocket throwers.
helenS36-40, F
@SoulKey Ah yes ok you are right. The Jews should not defend themselves. Hey wouldn't it be much better if they simply killed themselves so Hamas does not have to take the trouble.
Harmonium192351-55, M
@SoulKey If you're asking if Israel is willing to accept its own civilian casualties to defeat an enemy whose stated mission is to destroy them, then the answer is clearly yes. Hamas took 200 Israeli civilian hostages, presumably being held in Gaza. Perhaps you have forgotten.
@helenS Killing civilians is not self defense.
helenS36-40, F
@SoulKey You should tell Hamas your wisdom.
Harmonium192351-55, M
@SoulKey I'm not sure what your point is. For Hamas (remember them?) it was a deliberate strategy to kill and kidnap as many civilians as possible.
helenS36-40, F
@Harmonium1923 Yeah but Hamas "fighters" are not Jews, so it's okay.
His point is, he can't wait for the next holocaust.
Tastyfrzz61-69, M
@helenS What's done is done. It doesn't matter anymore. The cycle of retribution; even if unintentional, will continue and grow. If Hamas calculated that; knowing their adversary, there would be no way to prevent this then they were right.
helenS36-40, F
@Tastyfrzz It's not just Hamas, it's not just Gaza, it's a large portion of the Islamic world. Their anti-Semitism is despicable, and they leave Israel no choice. The Jews have to fight or they will not survive.
Tastyfrzz61-69, M
@Harmonium1923 Yes, they did, knowing that it would trigger a response that would kill an untold number of innocent third party civilians and create a new much larger group set on retribution. Hamas is just a trigger. It was like using chemical explosives to set off a chain reaction in an atomic bomb and Israel fell for it. Understand that I am not for either side in this. I'm just seeing it for what ir was.

@Tastyfrzz
I am not for either side in this.
Yes and that's wrong. There's no place for abstract pacifism here. It's a question of survival for the Jewish people. They are under attack.
Tastyfrzz61-69, M
@helenS But if you look at it from the long term objective their response is wrong. It's self destructive. It was a trap and they fell for it.
SpoiledbratF
So did Hamas. That's why I won't take sides. @Tastyfrzz
