Are humans allowed to live wild in the USA and Canada's?

I just saw a documentary on wild horses and I was wondering if humans are allowed to live in wild without government interference

Not really. There's vast amounts of fairly wild land but it's mostly owned one way or the other.

Really your only option is in the deserts.
