If you manage to survive in the woods...I imagine it's far easier than in Europe. We don't have that vast forest areas. North America seems to have so many places where one can get "lost" and nobody will be looking for them.

@CrazyMusicLover except bears, mountain lions and Bigfoot. Hehe.

@cherokeepatti Yes but I'm sure Native Americans knew how to protect themselves from them. Like tribes in Amazon rainforest.

@CrazyMusicLover imagine living in the deep forest, you know what all to do to protect yourself, you have everything you need for daily living.. But then a devastating forest fire happens. It will take these survivalists out in a heartbeat.

@cherokeepatti Yup, that is true. They stand no chance without any warning. I wonder if people in past migrated as soon as they sensed drought coming. Or if they somehow knew where to migrate to.

@Bugbittinbrain That's impressive. I can't really imagine living hardcore off-grid without electricity, for example. The main issue is how to conserve and store food.

@CrazyMusicLover Natives did that a hundred years ago and people could learn from them, many still do.

@Bugbittinbrain I remember reading The Way West by A. B. Guthrie Jr. which is about The Oregon Trail and one thing that stuck in my mind was the description of a bison stampede. it's one of the things that would probably never occur to me as a great danger when migrating across the country.

@CrazyMusicLover they’d hear it from a distance. In the Great Plains it would be hard to find a place to hide from them. If there was a wooded area nearby people could hide among the trees or climb up one.

Sad but true
Just raw hunting and gathering, letting nature always provide. Probably isn't possible anymore

@HumanEarth well in the movies they would hunt for meat. It would be basically like being on a keto diet if you made wild meats the basis for a diet. And if there are streams and lakes you could fish.
HumanEarth · F
@cherokeepatti Yeah, but I bet the fish is poisoned with mercury and other heavy metals. Thanks to pollution

@HumanEarth might be, less chance than being in a developed area though with run-off of yard chemicals and farm chemicals.
