I Am Fascinated By Human Behavior
The strangest thing:
I have always been fascinated by human behavior. For that reason I try to watch others whenever I can. We are a strange, strange species and we do strange, strange things. Lucky for me, I get a front-row seat to all the stupid shit people do, waitressing in a busy pub. But one of the strangest things I've encountered so far, is a man named Daniel.
Daniel is a forty-something year old man with the mentality of a 21 year old. For that reason he acts like a 21 year old and only shows interest in women of that age group. Daniel is a regular at the pub and often spends all day and night there, drinking. This has given me ample opportunity to observe him... study his behavior. But what I ended up finding is the strangest thing.
Its all an act. Behind his party-animal facade, lies a serious and sensitive man - too afraid to come out. I'd understand if this was a subliminal thing, but he does it KNOWINGLY... Hating himself for doing it, but unable to stop. He even goes as far as to act drunk, even when he is not. It was only when I called him out on it, that he told me the truth.
He believes that people like him more when he acts like a drunk adolescent. He does it for approval. The sad part, is he has it backwards. Drunk Daniel makes a fool out of himself... people like him less when he is drunk. People like him less when he is acting.
That is his irony. That is his tragedy. Isn't it just the strangest thing?
