Assisted dying in UK

One of the most ill thought out Bills going through Parliament at the moment.

Let’s us thank God for Archbishop elect Sarah, and previous Prime ministers David Cameron, Gordon Brown and Theresa May.

I stand agasp that George Carey should dare open his mouth, or Charlie Faulkner, or Esther Wilcox.

We don’t need a world where Harold Shipman or Lucy Letby reign.

I fear for people in care homes and the most vulnerable of society.

Sorry, I thought Harold Shipman and Lucy Letby killed people against their wishes. Assisted suicide is not that. We have Death with Dignity laws in many states, which allow physician-assisted death. Very strictly regulated, only at the patient’s request; and only for the terminally ill (who are within a few months of death and are suffering).

Those who are against this do not have to participate.

@bijouxbroussard Shipman did his out of compassion to start with. He could cope with the unbearable suffering some of his patients had.
@peterlee But did he have their consent ?

@bijouxbroussard It is thought so.

That extra dose of an opiate did the trick. Quite common in hospitals in the UK in the eighties.
@peterlee With the DWD laws here there can be no question; it must be a matter of record.
The patient has to specify on an advance directive form, in the same way they indicate not to resuscitate.

@bijouxbroussard Difficult culture. We in the UK are living in a culture where old people are seen as a nuisance, as they are a drain on the economy.
@peterlee I admit I’m unfamiliar with the language of the UK bill, but I’m assuming that like ours only the patients will be able to make this choice for themselves; it won’t legalize homicide.

@bijouxbroussard Exactly.
