do you think it's 'shameful' or 'embarrassing' to contact a befriending service

i got in touch with a mental health charity recently over my circumstances of having psychological problems, living alone and having no support network besides my elderly parents who live far away and they gave me the number of a befriending service a service that can assign people to go places with you, if you're alone like me.

but i have my pride and i thought would society see me as a charity case if i used a befriending service and would it be embarrassing for me?

No.

I'm 84 years old and practically all my old friends and family are deceased. Thankfully I'm in pretty good shape and I still have a few close family that are alive and well.

But I can easily see a need for a befriending service if and when I run out of my remaining friends.

Would I feel embarrassed or shameful if I did so? No.

Pride is a terrible reason for doing or not doing something that you my need to do.
