She's got enough context: Population data plus incidence of killings. That is sufficient for her point. If you mean the socio-economic forces at work, obviously the data above are out of context. But it was not the author's intent to explain everything.@Booyeah:

I agree with you after thinking about it. With education as the goal abstracted data can be spurious. In this I don't think it's a problem. The above statement is a headline, a quick information offer. And it will, I hope, motivate further reading@Booyeah:
