Cultural brainwashing, libertarian/neoliberal social Darwinist ideology, etc.
Some people like to think that they would be the superhero or exception if they were ever in a crisis.
You see it with people who say "If I were in a mass shooting, I would tackle the shooter and fight!"
Fact is, we don't know anything until we are in a situation ourselves and the fecal matter has impacted the air conditioning.

@GeistInTheMachine I have a doomsday prepper buddy. The first time life hit him in the nuts he never got back up . He talked such a good game. Hoped for war , civil unrest , etc…
