There is no denying that the internet has become so much more than it was 20 years ago...

but nothing can compare to the sound (and feeling) of a 56K modem dialing in and establishing connection on the early internet. That was magic! That was the sound of a portal opening in your livingroom / bedroom!

@SW-User I had this program that showed the caller ID, and you got to choose whether to take it or ignore it. My mom hated when I got that feature, cause I'd always ignore it when it was her friend calling. 馃槵
