There is no denying that the internet has become so much more than it was 20 years ago...

but nothing can compare to the sound (and feeling) of a 56K modem dialing in and establishing connection on the early internet. That was magic! That was the sound of a portal opening in your livingroom / bedroom!

It really was something special. ☺️

@StevenIzzi oooo, V.90 (1998) just sent chills down my spine, for reals.

56K was the upgrade from my 33.6K/14.4K.

Oh and oh... music meant something, people didn't have copycat attitudes to cop on, and they had to deal with was just in their own life and how to cope, love.

Or the frustration of someone calling and it kicking you off the internet 😆

@SW-User I had this program that showed the caller ID, and you got to choose whether to take it or ignore it. My mom hated when I got that feature, cause I'd always ignore it when it was her friend calling. 😬
As much as I hate that sound.. it really was. A portal to..... other people.
I wish I still felt that way.

And safer from the perspective of radiation.

Until a couple of years ago (maybe five years), I had only a 56k modem to connect to my server. Slow but doable. I used the vi editor on the server.
:wq 😁
