Forgiveness is never about the other person, it's always about YOU and you alone.
When you forgive someone, you are letting it go... which also includes FORGETTING about it.
If you cannot forget about it, then you have not technically forgiven them either.

@swirlie Nope. Forgetting puts you at risk. True forgiveness doesn't require you to forget, just to accept them back in your life knowing what they are capable of.

What "forgetting about it means" is not holding them accountable in the future for their actions of the past.
Forgetting about it does not literally mean that you cannot remember that past event because our memory will keep that past event alive ONLY if we want it to, or can recall the details of the event if someone reminds us of it.
But if your memory is keeping something alive at your own will despite forgiving someone for their wrongdoings, then you truly have not forgiven them in the first place because you are STILL harboring resentment toward them as evidenced by your inability ..or your unwillingness to "forgive and forget".

@swirlie I just know entirely too many people who think that you have to completely forget that it happened, and push it out of your memory. Literally forgiving and forgetting is just inviting someone to do it again.
