The whole thing of fan loyalty to professional sports teams makes no sense to me at all. The team that supposedly represents a particular city is just a group of people from anywhere at all hired by a business that happens to be located there. Any member of the team may end up on another team later on. There's nothing real to it.

I also dislike that sports is one of the few remaining areas of society where gender matters. Having separate male and female teams just doesn't make sense in today's world, and they need to start defining the specific physical criteria that they are looking for, relevant to the specific sport, instead.

@ServantOfTheGoddess In many sports, men and women are not physiologically capable of playing at the same speed and level.
ServantOfTheGoddess · 61-69, M
@RedBaron That only applies on the average.
RedBaron · M
@ServantOfTheGoddess Actually, it applies specifically to sports such as baseball, basketball, football, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, and running, off the top of my head. Men and women compete together in marathon races, and the top men always finish 20-30 minutes faster than the top women.

No value judgements, just facts based on physiology.

@RedBaron Nu. If men and women compete together in marathon races, they should be able to compete together in other sports too.

@ServantOfTheGoddess Which ones? In baseball, women can't throw, run, hit, or hit for power effectively enough to compete at the highest levels. What would be the point?
ServantOfTheGoddess · 61-69, M
@RedBaron Are all the male players at the highest levels?
RedBaron · M
@ServantOfTheGoddess No, and a few women have played at, I think, the small college level.
ServantOfTheGoddess · 61-69, M
@RedBaron so that's fine for my point, then. Base the choice of players on their skills by all means, but not on prior assumptions about who can do what.
