how communities come together to help

Word has started to get out about our church's plan 3 different churches in our area have offfered assistance both with money to buy supplies and helping cooking. We are not a large town so its not like thousands are going to show up every evening we're expected maybe a couple hundred, but its great we can help.

Before we blame the "Dems", please remind us - which party is in office right now?

Also, didn't this shutdown happen because republicans are wanting to take actions that would raise health insurance payments?

Also, how come SNAP is considered "non essential" but ICE is essential?
Is ICE going to chip in to help those in need?

And what about the new ballroom tRump is building?

Sometimes trump fans are hurt by the very actions by tRump yet you still try to blame the "dems"?

@HoeBag Orange peel can't do anything right, his next book should be called 'The art of the peel - how to ruin a country like a badly run business'.

@Allelse During the campaigns, okay so the trump crowd believed that he would fix America's financial woes. The voters were desperate.

But since then, he has wrecked plenty and some, if not all his supporters are STILL trying to apologize for him. I just do not get it.

@Allelse Haven't heard that expression in a while but yeah it is true.

They screwed up by voting that POS into office, they might as well continue to delude themselves.

They know they p3cker'ed up but it can be hard to admit. I guess it is a moot point now.

@HoeBag

the 2025 government shutdown, congressional gridlock is primarily fueled by partisan disagreements over federal spending levels, Affordable Care Act subsidies, and presidential power over congressionally-approved funds.

the president is the head of the executive branch, they cannot unilaterally end a government shutdown or force Congress to pass spending bills

Most federal government employees are not getting paid during the 2025 shutdown, including both furloughed workers and those deemed essential who must continue working. Some exceptions exist for employees funded outside of the annual appropriations process.

Most federal employees are expected to receive back pay after the current government shutdown ends, as required by the Government Employee Fair Treatment Act of 2019

The White House ballroom construction is being funded by private donations from numerous corporations, wealthy individuals, and President Donald Trump himself. Taxpayer money is not being used for the project

For the most part, payments for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)—the main "welfare" program—are continuing during the 2025 government shutdown
