I never really learned how to socialize, and at this point I doubt that I want to. Never seems like anyone has anything worth saying. I'm very likely going to age alone, which I don't dread in itself, but it is strongly associated with poor physical and cognitive health in older people, and I'm somewhat worried of the impact that will have on me.

My primary hope now is an AI system that I can converse with and maybe that will dull the harsh consequences

@TinyViolins well you seem to be socialising vocally over here pretty well. I understand your concerns but think you may be just self conscious. My husband is really socially anxious and awkward but I’ve watched him interact and he handles it better than he feels at the time.

@Primnproper I'm okay in short bursts. I tend to be pretty direct when communicating. It's only after getting past the meat of the conversation that I don't know where to steer things.

A lot of that could be self-consciousness, but I tend to feel more boredom that anxiety. Everyone's got lots of opinions on stuff, but few people have lots of experience and information. I always end up feeling like my energy will be better spent seeing what's being said online.

@TinyViolins Try everything and do what works for you. We can all only do our best and be the best of ourselves.
