When I was young it was all about striving.

Now, I’m fortunate enough to be successful by most standards. It’s different because I’m older and know that I’ve climbed the mountain. Because I realize that, I’m filled with honest happiness and feel tremendously lucky.

Ii used to want to rule. Be the best at everything. College, Army. It was all dumb.
Now I just want to chill and make some kind of a difference.

I am a minimalist.. I had everything that most other people wanted. I would daydream about happiness. I finally picked up my dog and walked out. It didn’t take me long to find out who my supposed friends were. I have enough money to live on and that’s enough for me.

The freedom to be yourself and happiness. That is my success now.

I used to think that success just came from hard work. You need to make money.

Now that I’m older I’ve realized that much of the success one strives for is internal. There’s no greater success than long term happiness, particularly with your wife and children.

Money is just a means to an end. It does make life easier, but it generally does it at the cost of “time”. More money, less personal time… it’s an individual decision how much you want to commit to create your own personal success.

Earlier in my life it used to how I am performing in whatever I am doing. So usually it can be measured by comparing with the peers.

Now it is more focused on what I am doing. Obviously, you should be performing good, if not excellent. The direction of your life is more important than your pace.

It used to be all about material possessions and good money. Now, I can see where the fewer material possessions you own, the better your life can be! I would like a bit more money, but that will come with time.

Yes. When I was younger, I thought I had to live up to everyone else's measure of success for me. Now that I'm older, I realize the only measure of success I need to live up to is my own.

Yes. I never really defined it (success) when I was young. I just followed the bouncing ball through school and afterwards and went where it looked interesting and things fell my way. Like the next step was waiting for me as I moved from one adventure to the next.

Then things changed when I was 40. Tragedy, misfortune and I had to pause to help pick up the pieces and my focus was on healing and tending to the family and I defined success in my mind for the first time. Rallying the family back to life.

Now, 40 years later again, success is about navigating the family through end of life. So everyone can sustain happiness to the end.

I guess not. I define it in a very simple way which is the accomplishment of the goal. But the word might have different meanings depending on the context. If your goal was becoming a manager and you achieved it but you realized it didn't bring you satisfaction, well it's still success, just maybe not in a bigger picture. Sometimes success is measured by overall happiness and contentment in life. If your goal was to become happy and content in life, why not? 🤷🏻‍♀ Even if it means that you have low social status and unimpressive income.

Owning my own home and having a solid retirement plan.

When I was young before I was a adult. It was how much shit you had and much money you have.

Today its none of that. I measure success today by the people around me and not for the crap I own or what I did or can do.

I can be penniless and still be more successful with just love in my heart.
