When Did This Thing Called "Ghosting" Become A Thing?

Whatever happened to telling the person concerned I've had enough, see ya I'm off!
I'm hearing it mentioned more and more.

I know right. All cowards. My old best friend didnt tell me he was leaving , walking away from me when he got pissed or any emotion... he ghosted me for 2 years. I couldnt email.or text him. Or call. Not evwn linked in chat. He blocked me every where. He hurt me.
