Eastern Star (OES)

I have a family member who recently joined the Eastern Star. They are saying that their purpose is charitable and educational. They already are in a fraternity and now this has been introduced. What are your thoughts of this organization?🤔

"this" being?

If it is a genuine charitable and social club like the Moose, Foresters, Round Table or Freemasons then I would not worry, but I would want to ensure it is not a cult instead.
The Order of the Eastern Star isn't a fraternity, but a sister org for women which is part of Freemasonry, which has its own lore about one of the Temples in Jerusalem.

The Freemasons were a sort of secret society for the middle class, a way of meeting ppl and getting ahead, with the backdrop of "mystic knowledge" from the time of one of the Temples.

I'm sure there's a wikipedia article.

My mother belonged to Eastern Star. It was the women's side of the Masons. I don't know what they did.

They’ve been around for many years and I’ve not heard anything negative about them.

It's a traditional thing among certain families and bloodlines of people. Although there are good things about this particular organization, there are also some very bad and dark things about it too. So to each his own. 🤔
