Fabio was not hit by a seagull. The incident occurred on March 30, 1999, when Italian model and actor Fabio Lanzoni was riding the newly opened Apollo’s Chariot roller coaster at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. According to multiple sources, including Fabio himself in later interviews, a goose struck him during the ride, but he later claimed the bird actually hit a video camera mounted on the coaster, which then dislodged and cut his nose.
Fabio has stated in interviews, including with PEOPLE in 2024, that he was not hit by the goose, but by a piece of shrapnel from the camera. He described the incident as a "miracle" that spared him serious injury, requiring only three stitches. The goose, reportedly weighing around 10 pounds, died in the collision and was seen floating in a nearby pond.
