Catfish implies you're trying to manipulate people in some way. I think a lot of people here use assumed names without any nefarious intentions.

Sweetie, I would only equate a catfish that is someone who pretends they are someone they aren't for some sort of emotional or financial gain. Using a fake name to talk about your trauma? If that helps, then great.....and sorry to hear about any trauma you have...

A catfish is someone who uses a fake persona to manipulate others. It doesn't mean you're using a screen name which 99.99% of the people on here are doing. My real name isn't "Leopold Bloom" and I don't look like Stephen Rea either.

Sweetie, that's not what a catfish is. A catfish is a guy pretending to be a girl to get guys to message him, usually for the purpose of getting money out of them. You're not a catfish. You're a person who has been hurt and is cautious.

That doesn’t make you a catfish. You deserve to be anonymous if you don’t want to share your traumas publicly with any of your real identity attached.
